HON. FOLAWEWO FATIU SALAMI

Hon. Folawewo Fatiu Salami
Member, Ogun State House of Assembly – Ifo Constituency II
Chairman, House Committee on Forestry

Hon. Folawewo Fatiu Salami is a distinguished lawmaker and public servant representing Ifo Constituency II in the Ogun State House of Assembly. Born on June 7, 1971, he hails from the esteemed Salami family in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State. His life and career reflect a deep commitment to professionalism, grassroots development, and political service.

He began his educational journey at Ansarudeen Primary School, Agbado Station (1977–1983), where he earned his First School Leaving Certificate. He proceeded to Agbado District Comprehensive High School, where he obtained his Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) with commendable results.

Driven by a passion for finance and administration, Hon. Salami enrolled at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, where he earned his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Accountancy in 1994.

He completed his industrial attachment as a site supervisor with Femi Adeboye Builders in Lagos (1994–1995), and later returned to complete his Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy in 1996.

During his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year in 1999, he served as a Store Assistant at Abiola Bookshops Limited, Lagos. His dedication earned him a permanent role, where he rose through the ranks to become the company’s Marketing Manager by 2011 before resigning to pursue his political aspirations.

Though born into a political family, his political career began under the Alliance for Democracy (AD) where he voluntarily joined as a foundational member in 1999 before he later joined the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), where he contested as the Ogun State House of Assembly candidate for Ifo II in 2011 and later as Chairmanship candidate for Ifo Local Government in 2012. Ahead of the 2015 elections, he joined the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), which later became the All Progressives Congress (APC). Though he initially stepped down from the 2015 race for the Ifo II Assembly seat at the request of party leadership, he was appointed as a Member of the Governor’s Advisory Council to Ifo Local Government. In 2019, he contested again under the APC and, despite a controversial result, narrowly lost.

Recognizing his influence and capacity, Governor Dapo Abiodun appointed him as the Transition Committee Chairman of Ifo Local Government, where he recorded significant achievements in governance and development.

In 2023, Hon. Salami recontested for the Ifo II State Assembly seat and won by a landslide, marking a defining moment in his political journey. As the current representative for Ifo Constituency II, he serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Forestry, championing environmental sustainability, legislative accountability, and community-centered development.

He is happily married to Alhaja Mutiat Salami, and their union is blessed with children. Hon. Fola Salami continues to be a symbol of integrity, visionary leadership, and grassroots representation in Ogun State politics.
