The Member representing Ifo II State Constituency, Hon. Fola Salami, has facilitated the provision of seven hand-pump boreholes for rural communities in Ososun and Sunren Wards of his constituency.

The facilitation was carried out through the office of the MD/CEO of the Ogun-Oshun River Basin Development Authority (O-ORBDA), Hon. Adedeji Ashiru, under the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation.

The selection of hand-pump boreholes was based on the nature of the communities and the need to provide access to quality and adequate water for domestic and agricultural purposes, which can enhance the quality of life of the people and promote socio-economic development.

Additionally, the idea is to ensure that water becomes readily available all year round for domestic and agricultural purposes without the need to rely on electricity or generators to power the boreholes, since the villages are remote and may not have a constant electricity supply for pumping.

Of the seven (7) communities that will benefit from the O-ORBDA intervention, work has commenced in three (3), namely Okenla Village, Paata Ajegunle Village, and Yanbi Village in Sunren (Ward 9), while work will commence soon in Obada Village in Sunren (Ward 9) and in Lisa, Ayegbe, and Oluke in Ososun (Ward 8).

In his remarks, Hon. Fola Salami thanked the management of O-ORBDA, led by Hon. Ashiru, for the opportunity given to him to facilitate potable and accessible water for the people of his constituency, particularly rural dwellers. He stated that the intervention would go a long way in alleviating the suffering of people in rural communities who may have been relying on contaminated surface water for their daily use.

He added that the intervention aligns with one of the Renewed Hope Agenda initiatives of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at ensuring that every Nigerian has access to potable water for drinking and other essential uses.
