Hon. Folawewo Fatiu Salami, Member of the Ogun State House of Assembly for Ifo II State Constituency, has reiterated his commitment to uplifting developmental ideals, particularly in the area of education and activities aimed at empowering the youth and the community at large. He demonstrated this commitment as the Special Guest of Honour at his alma mater, Agbado District Comprehensive High School (Senior) (ADCHSS), for their 2024 Valedictory and Prize Giving Day Ceremony.
A distinguished alumnus of ADCHSS, Hon. Salami added great colour to the ceremony through his generous donation of cash prizes to deserving students. Representing him at the event were two prominent APC leaders: Alhaji Bayonle Lasisi from Oke-Aro Ibaragun Ward and Chief Ganiyu Elefonde from Agbado Ward respectively. Prince Babs Onifade was also on the entourage. Alhaji Bayonle Lasisi delivered the Special Guest’s address, celebrating the achievements of the graduates and reflecting on the enduring values of their alma mater.
In his speech, Hon. Salami expressed heartfelt appreciation to the school management for the opportunity to participate in the celebration of academic success. He commended Principal Mrs. Temitope Ogundare for her exceptional leadership in restoring the core values of discipline, academic excellence, and sportsmanship at ADCHSS—values that have long defined the school’s heritage. Reflecting on his own time as an athlete at the school, he praised the Principal’s efforts to continue these traditions.
Principal Mrs. Ogundare, in her address, extended her deepest gratitude to Hon. Salami for his ongoing support of the school. She acknowledged that his generous donations, both past and present, have significantly contributed to the success of the institution’s events and affirmed his role as a worthy ambassador of ADCHSS. She highlighted that his commitment to his alma mater continues to inspire both students and staff alike.
Ganiyu Olowu, President of the ADCHS Old Students’ Association (ADCHSOSA), expressed profound appreciation for the contributions made by Hon. Salami to the success of the Valedictory and Prize Giving Day. He noted that the alumni recognise Hon. Salami as a true Ambassador of the school, whose dedication and support have played a crucial role in the continued success and growth of ADCHS. Olowu highlighted that Hon. Salami’s contributions have strengthened the bonds within the ADCHS community and inspired future generations of students to excel.
The event also featured the induction of the 2023 and 2024 graduates into the ADCHS alumni community, with the new alumni pledging to uphold the values of their alma mater. Hon. Salami’s representatives awarded cash prizes to the top students in various subject categories, celebrating their outstanding achievements. The winners of these awards were:
- Overall Best Student in Mathematics: Ajadi Sodiq
- Overall Best Student in English Language: Bello Kehinde
- Overall Best Student in Literature-in-English: Bioku Lekan
- Overall Best Student in Government: Bello Kehinde
- Overall Best Student in Accounting: Mustapha Rafia
In his closing remarks, Hon. Salami urged the graduates to steer clear of social vices such as cultism, prostitution, and internet fraud, popularly known as “Yahoo-Yahoo.” He emphasised that hard work and dedication are the keys to success, and he assured the graduates that they have the potential to drive Nigeria’s future greatness.
This year’s Valedictory and Prize Giving Day was indeed a memorable occasion, celebrating the achievements of the students and reinforcing the enduring legacy of Agbado District Comprehensive High School.
